Research / Programmes

In 2022, RESPIRE completed the recruitment of pregnant women participants. The project, funded by Marató TV3, provided scientific evidence on maternal immunisation against preventable diseases and will help guide future vaccination strategies.

We launched SARA, a project funded by the Spanish Health Research Fund (FIS-ISCIII) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-dose acetylsalicylic acid in preventing COVID-19 complications during pregnancy. The multicentre trial is being conducted at two sites in Spain and two in Mozambique and will enrol 400 pregnant women.

A meta-analysis of data from nearly 6,000 pregnant women in five sub-Saharan countries showed that adolescent girls are at higher risk of malaria during pregnancy than adult women (1).
